Fingerprint of obesity

 FINGERPRINTs OF OBESITY Worldwide
Dr.Asma Ali ( Ecologist)

Introduction :

Whenever we meet an obeses, we always make a conclusion, either a person is a couch potato or he has a sweet tooth. That seems pretty funny to me now. After few researches I ruled out different Causes of obesity ; including sedentary Lifestyle, genetic factors, health condition, use of certain medication, inadequate sleep and diet. Majority of people are struggling with weight issues.

Besides of physical discomfort an obese individual invites risk of non communicable disease more rapidly than other person. Some diseases are diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, gallbladder disease,  depression, sleep apnea, fatty liver disease  osteoarthritis, some cancer (liver, kidney, prostate, ovary) and fertility related problems.

WHO ( World Health Organisation report) :-
According to World Health Organisation report, most of the world's population live in countries where overweight and obesity kills more people than underweight. Worldwide obesity has nearly tripled since 1975. Over 340 million children and adolescents, aged 5-19 were overweight or obese in 2016.

Therefore many appetite suppressant drug are finding their ways in market worldwide. Even if we know these drugs work an our apatite regulatory system and leaves lethal effect on central nervous system.
On Monday (29 April 2019) at the 26th European Congress on obesity in Glasgow, Scotland;  a reputed biotechnology company Gelesis presented a new capsule PLENITY ( tricks your stomach to feel full) that help an overweight or obese to shade some pounds when it use  along with diet and exercise.

According to doctor Ken Fujioka ( a weight loss expert, endocrinology researcher and scientific advisor), this approach will create another arm in the treatment algorithm of weight management, which has a strong safety and efficacy profile.  PLENITY is the weight loss drug announced clearance from US food and drug administration ( FDA).

But its sound is quite iffy to me. Because there from 1997 to 2010 doctors were able to prescribe an another weight loss medication SIBUTRAMINE too  but US, food and drug administration withdrew approval in 2010 due to concern about serious adverse effects.

On the other hand, scientist are working on fat cells. As we  know that our body contains two types of fat cells brown fat cells and white fat cells. Brown fat cells burn calories and produce heat whereas white fat cell stores calories. Scientist have been looking for ways to reprogram white fat cell,  so they will  behave like brown fat cells. If that happens, it would be a great revolution in human health; a therapy that can cause the body to burn fat more quickly.

In the same way if we talk about gastric bypass therapy, it also doesn't seem to be very beneficial therapy. In this procedure doctor reduces the size of the stomach and mid section of the small intestine. But there is a higher risk of Vitamin and Minerals deficiency,  as the body can not longer absorb many nutrients.

So stop being a moaning minnie and concentrate on your health, stop using shortcuts to get rid of fatty skin. Here are some well known and proven ways to reduce your fat or to shape up  your body.

Dietary changes :-
We should reduce the intake of processed, refined, readymade food, that are high in sugar and fat. Some processed food contains additive such as high Fructose corn syrup.  We should include adequate amount of whole grain and high fibre foods like fruits and vegetables. Whole grains help a person to feel full for longer, because they release energy more slowly. Similarly vegetables and fruits are rich source of vitamin, mineral and fibres,  that keeps our body healthy in many ways.

Physical activities :-
A person who is not in the habit of exercising should start it from today. Walking briskly, swimming, using the stairs instead of elevator are also good options you can put them into habit. You cannot change your habits overnight but one little step could pose a health risk.
